#TerrificTakeout #InauguralReview #MikeyPomodoro by #MichaelMiranti and #MarcoCattafesta @ChickenParmPapi
It's not who you know it's WHOM YOU KNOW and now we know Michael Miranti from Queens with a B.S. in Hospitality Management and Marco Cattafesta from Brooklyn, owners of Mikey Pomodoro! It's a great little Italian to-go spot near Grand Central Terminal that we suggest you check out. They are extremely passionate about their endeavor as evidenced by Mike's arm below! We began with the entirely fresh Arugula and Heirloom Tomato Salad, which hits the spot on a hot day. You know it is the high holy time of bathing suit season and salads are uber-important. Red onion and Lioni's fresh mozzarella also come to this nutritious party on a plate.
This started in the summer of 2020 as a concept and they have risen to the occasion opening in February 2022 in Urbanspace Vanderbilt.
We love love love Meatballs and this edition new to us was impressive! They are 50/50 beef and pork and are derived from a historied family recipe of Mike's Dad, Artie, originally coming from his great-grandmother. The ricotta is like the cherry on top sourced from Lioni's in Bensonhurst. Every bite is tantalizingly delicious and this is going to be a staple you'll go back for we bet. This is our first visit ever and their first review. As you avid readers know we never edit pictures like some people do as that is LYING! We publish the truth and the truth looks like this:
You excel like Mike and Marco or we do not publish!
Obviously we are majorly influenced by hockey and Canadians so we know what Poutine is. This is their version at Mikey Pomodoro: Neapolitan Poutine! Gravy and cheese curd on french fries is something you've got to try and of course Pomodoro means gravy...tomato in italian! Chopped garlic and oil furthers this wonderous dish with our favorite, mozzarella.
They are serious about sourcing quality ITALIAN products from ITALY and you know we are into that as seen in many past posts with the Italian Trade Commission and Gruppo Italiano, Gianfranco's baby! Look to the left my friends for our Made in Italy and Italy Peachy columns.
Of course everything here is made to order and fresh. It is a tiny restaurant! Take out!
Above, meet The Roman: Italian Artichoke Hearts, Lioni's Smoked Mozzarella, Evoo and Balsamic Reduction. Perfectly light for a hot summer day! Below are the Chicken Parm Sliders and their name at Mikey Pomodoro is Chikky Parm. It's ground breast and thigh of chicken with duck fat lending a special touch to the classic. They are small slider versions: The Chikky Parm, The Piccata (Lemon Garlic, White Wine and Capers) and The Vodka Chikky. The Vodka Chikky Parm was by far our favorite component of this review because the sauce was superior. Calabrian peppers also join in for this culinary festivity. Actually instead of trying them all we would just like to see a regular sized Vodka Parm on the menu as opposed to this size.
Mikey Pomodoro is Terrific Takeout and we can't wait to see what these two guys do next!
Also try the Blood Orange...
