#NHLPeachy @NHL Lightning Clinch Franchise-Best Sixth Straight Playoff Berth

#NHLStats about the Tampa Bay Lightning, who are headed to the postseason for a franchise-record sixth consecutive year and 15th time in club history. Tampa Bay became the seventh team to clinch a berth in the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs by winning Saturday.

1. The Lightning will aim to become the fifth team in NHL history, and first in nearly 40 years, to reach the Stanley Cup Final in at least four consecutive seasons. Two franchises have combined for the four instances so far: the Canadiens (10x from 1951-1960, 5x from 1965-1969 & 4x from 1976-1979) and Islanders (5x from 1980-1984).

2. The Lightning pace all clubs with a combined 26 Stanley Cup wins among players and rank second in terms of different Cup winners (14, behind COL: 19). That includes 12 players who have won at least one championship with Tampa Bay and 10 who were part of the back-to-back titles in 2020 and 2021 (click here for details).

3. The Lightning are one of two clubs with three players who have 100+ career playoff points (also BOS): Nikita Kucherov, Corey Perry and Victor Hedman. Kucherov (52-102—154 in 136 GP) has the third-most career playoff assists and points among active players, behind Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin in each category.

4. Nikita Kucherov has collected 23-70—93 in helping the Lightning reach the Final in each of the past three years (71 GP), 29 points more than the next highest scorer over that span. He is one of four players in NHL history with 25+ playoff points in three or more consecutive years – after Wayne Gretzky (1983-1985), Mike Bossy (1981-1983) and Bryan Trottier (1980-1982) – and can become the first to hit the mark in four straight.

5. Victor Hedman (22-85—107 in 155 GP) is the only active defenseman (and one of 14 in NHL history) with 100+ career playoff points. Hedman and Denis Potvin are the only defensemen in NHL history with 15+ playoff points in three consecutive years, with Potvin hitting the mark in four straight from 1980 to 1983.

6. Andrei Vasilevskiy is 63-38 in his playoff career (104 GP), with 61 of those victories coming in his 99 career postseason starts. He already is one of seven netminders in NHL history to win at least 61 of his first 100 career starts, following Billy Smith (74), Ken Dryden (72), Grant Fuhr (71), Jacques Plante (67), Patrick Roy (62) and Martin Brodeur (61). In 2022, Vasilevskiy set an NHL record with his sixth carer series-clinching shutout.

7. Steven Stamkos (43-48—91 in 117 GP) and Brayden Point (38-40—78 in 76 GP) rank fourth and fifth, respectively, on the franchise’s career playoff points list. After tying the club record for career playoff overtime goals in Game 6 of the 2022 First Round, Point missed most of Tampa Bay’s run due to injury but now is in position to become the third-fastest active player to accumulate 40 career playoff goals – only Nathan MacKinnon (68 GP) and Sidney Crosby (77 GP) have hit the mark in 80 games or fewer. Stamkos, meanwhile, can become the fifth player in NHL history to captain a team to at least three Stanley Cup wins.

8. Since joining the NHL in 1992-93, the Lightning rank fourth among all franchises with 121 playoff wins – behind Detroit (163), Pittsburgh (152) and Colorado (144) – and are tied for the second most Stanley Cup Final appearances in that span (5). They have claimed 39 of their playoff wins in overtime and rank fourth in NHL history with .590 winning percentage in playoff OT.

9. Pat Maroon and Corey Perry have reached the Stanley Cup Final in each of the past four and three years, respectively. Maroon can become the fourth player in NHL history to play in the championship series in 5+ consecutive years – and first since Billy Carroll 38 years ago (1981-1985) – while Perry will look to become the second player in NHL history to go 16+ years between Cup wins (only Chris Chelios has done so).

10. John Cooper can become the first active head coach to win the Stanley Cup three times (and 13th in NHL history to do so) and the sixth all-time to reach the Final in four or more consecutive years. His 18 career series wins are tied for the most among active head coaches and for sixth place in NHL history, while his 84 postseason wins rank 11th all-time and second among active head coaches behind Darryl Sutter (94).
