Elio Albanese, Owner of Allora Fifth Avenue with his 14 oz Filet Mignon
Say your prayers and the lobster ravioli will appear as a special!
It's not who you know, it's WHOM YOU KNOW and now we are happy to know Elio Albanese, sole owner and founder of Allora Fifth Avenue who's from Montenegro. Located at 292 Fifth Avenue at 31st Street, Allora opened March 1, 2023 and the captain of this ship tells us that Allora means: "what, then?" So, Allora, what did Peachy Deegan eat?
Allora excels in the time-honored tradition of classy hospitality to a T. We were graciously greeted with a fascinating chili pepper, marinated zucchini, parmesan, and soppressata promptly upon arrival while Peachy perused the menu. Not too may places do this anymore (Primola always does!) and this was a pleasant surprise. The chili was bright and awakening without being overwhelming and the zucchini was tantalizingly delicious.
Peachy is so obsessed with mozzarella that there is a Burrata Peachy column and to that end we absolutely cannot wait for the Peachy's Pick Mozzarella e Vino to reopen. At Allora since it was our first visit, we opted for the Mozzarella Di Bufala Alla Caprese: Buffalo milk mozzarella with tomatoes and basil. This beloved standard was everything we had hoped for and the presentation was beautiful as was everything we experienced at Allora: they are aesthetically motivated. Perhaps most impressive of all was the Insalata Alla Cesare prepared tableside: there's Elio on the left!
We were so excited to watch the action from the smashing of the capers and anchovies which commences this firework of a salad. Mustard, lemon juice, egg yolk and evoo next joins the party and finally the romaine and croutons and cheese. Wow wow wow wow indeed. Pictures do not lie; you excel like Elio or we do not publish. Pictures are never edited.
It really is this gorgeous.
These are some of the most outstanding pastas we have had this season and we are so glad we discovered Allora. It is de rigeur for us to order one red sauce and one white sauce, particularly on our first visit however we broke our own rules in this case because at ALLORA THEY HAVE GREEN PASTA AND WHAT COULD BE BETTER THAN THAT!!! AND THEY HAD THE SPECIAL OF LOBSTER RAVIOLI!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In case you didn't read the other 27,000 posts, Peachy is Irish and loves the color green: it is her favorite. Above meet the always on the menu printed out: Tagliatelle with shrimp, baby artichokes and basil. Perfectly al dente, this is fresh. light and bright for spring and also fashionably arrives in Peachy's favorite hue. We loved it. A special the night we visited was the lobster ink ravioli which is so delicious and innovative. Of course it's stuffed generously with lobster and luxuriates in a light cream sauce with peas, shrimp, and white truffle oil coming to its party on a plate. Words do not do this justice. We absolutely adore lobster and shrimp and this incarnation in particular and it should be on the menu all the time.
Allora puts the places that serve a sliver of fish and call it an entree to shame.
This is what a fish entree should look like.
Dentice Mediteranian is filet of red snapper! You'll feel like you went to Florida even if you are only on Fifth Avenue which is also a coveted location! This fish snaps to it in a champagne sauce: enjoy your life! Shrimp, scallions and parsley team up with cherry tomatoes, roasted potato and polenta to bring you seaside. However, the best entree we tried was the special 14oz Filet Mignon, perfectly medium rare and absolutely exquisite with Barolo.
Peachy is a Deegan not a vegan and good thing! You have not lived until you have had the Allora Fifth Avenue Elio Barolo Red Wine Reduction Filet Mignon. The Empire State Building probably eats it for dinner now that Elio's in the neighborhood and that's how it lights up! When buildings start talking we'll give you an update. This decadent sauce exudes richness in every bite and this carnivorous endeavor exceeded our expectations. It was perfectly medium rare and they outdid themselves with the divinity of the Barolo sauce. And obviously to get the whole experience, sip Barolo too.
Were we impressed at Allora? YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT! Wow wow wow wow we hope our new friend Elio keeps it up and we can't wait to see what he does next.
