The Coronation celebration will provide an
opportunity to shine a spotlight on the issues that His Majesty has dedicated
his life to, including the importance of local communities, sustainability and
environmental protection, and supporting youth and diversity.
Emma Wade-Smith, British Consul General to New York & His Majesty’s Trade Commissioner for North America stated: “The Coronation of King Charles will mark a historic moment for the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth. We are thrilled to celebrate this event with friends and partners across New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut. Together we will reflect on the traditions of the monarchy as well as the monarch’s role today.”
The British Consulate General New York will be hosting the following:
Friday, April 21st: A lecture and conversation celebrating the history behind the Coronation with Wolf Burchard, Associate Curator, European Sculpture and Decorative Arts, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, hosted at the National Arts Club. This event is part of the National Arts Club’s free programming that is open to the public.
Saturday, May 6th: A live breakfast screening of the Coronation ceremony at Lincoln Center’s David Geffen Hall, with doors opening at 05:45am for 300+ invited guests. The event will showcase the best of Britain through collaborations and partnerships with a number of British companies, including Chapel Down and Aston Martin. This Lincoln Center event is being underwritten by the generous support of Virgin Atlantic, our partners focused on creating brilliantly different experiences for their customers flying between New York City and the UK.
A series of lunches, teas and pub celebrations will also occur organically throughout the day at familiar British hangouts such as Tea & Sympathy in the West Village and Dog & Bone in Chelsea.
Saturday May 6th: A private lunch at King Restaurant in Soho for British and American recipients of United Kingdom honours.
Monday May 8th: To mark the Coronation, thousands of organisations across the UK are getting together to give everyone the chance to help in their local communities. To support this initiative, the British Consulate General will be conducting a “Big Help Out” by volunteering with City Harvest and Randall’s Island Park Alliance, two organisations whose focus reflect some of the issues which His Majesty has dedicated much of his life.
In addition, there will be a number of other events to mark the occasion. We will be supporting the following:
Saturday, May 6th: A private Royal Garden Party hosted by the Philadelphia Branch of The English-Speaking Union at The Highlands Mansion & Garden in Philadelphia.
Sunday, May 7th: St Thomas Church, Fifth Avenue will be conducting a special Choral Evensong in thanksgiving of HM King Charles III at 4pm. All are welcome.
Across the Consulate’s social media channels, we will be counting down the Coronation, and highlighting activities across the region. Additionally, as we move closer to May 6th, we will continue to share additional opportunities to attend viewing parties and celebrations across the region which will be held at pubs, taverns, and anglophile hot spots.
The Consulate operates a full calendar of arts and cultural highlights annually. Upcoming events for 2023 include a celebration of West End and Broadway in advance of the Tony awards in June, the British Government celebrating its tenth anniversary of participating in NY PRIDE, Wimbledon at The Hill in Brooklyn, and Fleet Week.
The Coronation will be supported by the ‘GREAT Britain and Northern Ireland campaign’ (GREAT), the UK's international promotional program that encourages the world to visit, study, live and do business with the UK. For more information on the Coronation of King Charles please visit
