The Chicken Parm Grinder is their greatest hit on their first review says Peachy Deegan
It's not who you know, it's Whom You Know and we're delighted to tell you about the reopening of Salvo's Pizza Bar on the Upper East Side by brothers Imer and Ferit Cami! They took over at Salvo's Pizza Bar on March 1, 2023 and are the new owners. You should know they are quite personable and go way beyond the pizza!
We began with Salvo's Special Salad, above. Their artichokes are sublime and they make this and the dish we are about to mention below. They listened and put the dressing on the side; the special namesake salad is composed of baby spinach, shaved parmigiano and kalamata olives which team up with the aforementioned artichokes. Lemon evoo comes to the party as dressing.
Chicken santorini is the entree we tried and the mountaire black label organic chicken shines with capers and artichokes dancing in a white wine sauce. Divine.
As always, the pictures are unedited.
It looks exactly this much a step above from the pizza shop on the corner.
We always try a cheese and compare it to what Peachy chooses to put on it.
We noticed the cheese is quite popular with their tremendous allegiance of schoolchildren but we would suggest picking your own toppings. We chose spinach, garlic, artichoke, mushrooms, green peppers and broccoli. Vegetables are always a great idea but in this High Holy Season of Wearing Your Miraclesuit, it is a good idea to work as hard on your diet as they do making the suit (but not so hard that you don't eat pizza...we hear Martha Stewart cut out carbs for her Sports Illustrated cover.)
The Sausage and Peppers Roll is not to be ignored and it's a wonder piping hot, all ready to cannonball into the marinara. And the Garden Salad is a super standard: romaine, cucumber, olives, tomatoes, and fresh diced mozzarella combine for a fresh symphony of flavor to balance off your carb festival! Oil and red vinegar dressing comes with this and again they listened and put the dressing on the side.
Finally the piece de resistance of this entire review was without a doubt the majestic Chicken Parm Grinder which was delicately devoured by Peachy quite quickly and enthusiastically. You absolutely must have it. The bread, the sauce, the chicken and the cheese were in perfect proportion to each other and they were fresh and delicious.
Salvo's Pizza Bar is Terrific Takeout!
We look forward to seeing what they do next.
