It's not who you know and it never has been. It's WHOM YOU KNOW and we know the Hinnawi family! Sibling team Mona, Ramsey and Dina now own Bagelworks, opened by their Mom and Dad along with a family friend in 1983 at their one and only location ever: 1229 1st Avenue in Manhattan of course.
They go way beyond the bagel and have an extensive menu that excels in sandwiches and their bialys are the best we've ever had. Previously on Whom You Know they were first featured in 2013.
Clearly this is not a mere bagel: it is a work of art.
Four decades of excellence yields this kind of experience.
It's the Chicken Pesto Melt and we chose to have it on a Sesame Bagel.
Chicken Cutlet, Provolone Cheese, Sweet Red Peppers and Pesto magically team up in a warm sensation to grace your palate. This first bagel is found under the specialty section of the menu. Note we never edit pictures: you win like Mona or we do not publish. We were absolutely delighted to meet Mona Hinnawi this time and we firmly believe and know that OLDER SISTERS RULE!!!!!
The Sliced Salmon Sandwich is a total New York Classic and might be our most favorite of everything we tried except we also really loved the bialy and the bacon egg and cheese and the scallion cream cheese and....
We chose to have this on an everything bagel and you should know it is among the most popular! This does not surprise us one bit as these bagels across the board are uber-fresh and the quality ingredients that they use are testament to the fact that they have to love it themselves before it makes their menu says Mona.
Tomato, capers, red onion and cream cheese dance with the salmon on your bagel starting off your day tremendously.
Peachy Deegan has a close relationship with Bacon, Egg and Cheese everywhere and what could be better than Bacon, Egg and Cheese? Answer: when it is on a Mona Bagel! The bacon is perfectly crisp like we want it to be and they even have Munster cheese. Just FABULOUS! We cannot overemphasize how this will totally hit the spot. It is starring on an onion bagel here. Of course, you can get it on whatever kind of bagel you would want!
If you are watching your weight or simply want to be healthy, above please meet the Garden Tuna Salad on Sourdough and note they do not use mayo on this and their tuna is in water, not oil. Below please meet the Low Fat Veggie Chicken Sandwich on Whole Wheat, and we chose Cheddar Cheese to come to this party. You can see the spectacular array of vegetables that join both of these bagels in vivid color evocative of premium nutrition! Who said bagels are not healthy?! Green and red peppers, onion, lettuce, tomato, jalapeno, broccoli...the list goes on!
You cannot go wrong with the straightforward classic Scallion Cream Cheese on onion! Though this picture is less colorful it is not indicative of less flavor and deliciousness! This is exactly what you are looking for in a chewy, fresh bagel with the ultimate in cream cheese!!!
Finally, befriend the Chicken Salad with fresh Dill: a concoction ideal for summer eating! Poppy bagels make it even more sensational.
We also cannot say enough about the Bialys and you would be absolutely remiss to not capitalize on the opportunity of picking up some of those too. Great flavor and freshness! We don't know that we have ever had better Bialys.
Bagelworks is most definitely recommended and we cannot wait to see what they do next!
