#IlPostino Since 1997 by Luigi and Maria Russo @ILPostinoNYC Their Second Hit on #WhomYouKnow Now at 133 East 61st Street!
The entrees exemplify excellence at Il Postino
Our friends Maria and Luigi Russo, Founders and Owners of Il Postino
...and even the rose is PEACHY.
You know this means a double feature in A Peachy by Any Other Name...we are into details and so is Il Postino!
It's not who you know and it never has been. It's WHOM YOU KNOW and we know Luigi and Maria Russo, founders and owners of Il Postino! It has been ages since we first met them when they were featured in 2017, and we are delighted to return and introduce you to their new location on East 61st Street on the Upper East Side. It is obvious that Maria used to be a professional in the fashion industry because of her stunning taste and style. Il Postino moved from their last location to here on July 16, 2021.
We noticed on their website you can translate it into Italian; if you are Italian and don't speak English you can translate us on the top right of Whom You Know to read this review, directly under Testimonials and Search.
We were graciously greeted with cannellini beans with exquisite finely chopped calamari, evoo and lemon and this fresh, fragrant introduction was a glorious beacon of what was to come. An incredible zucchini marinade with garlic, mint and crushed red pepper also came to the first spot in the Il Postino hit parade in tasteful manner as well.
If you haven't had it yet and even if you have because you're going to want to have it again, the Carpaccio Di Tonno, Cernia e Salmone is what is missing from your summer. It is absolutely intoxicatingly delicious with the trifecta hit of Bluefin Tuna, Snapper and Salmon. The combined flavor sings a song of summer on your palate and the essence of each of the trio will make your day. Even you, Clint Eastwood.
Capers and Red Onions beautifully garnish this Crudo.
Il Postino started in New York on 49th Street in 1997.
Note we never ever edit pictures and only always publish the truth.
The truth are Luigi and Maria are in it to win it and it does truly look this fantastic.
Over fourteen years into doing this, we rarely see something we don't think we've had, especially Italian. The Carciofi Il Postino: Artichokes with Baby Shrimp in a Lobster Sauce arrives piping hot and these wonders of the sea make this a premiere antipasti deserving of your attention. It goes without saying that Il Postino is the epitome of elegance and a destination venue.
Obviously, the pasta course is a crucial element of any Italian venue and Il Postino absolutely rose to the occasion with not only quality but also creativity and freshness, as the second one was made literally right in front of us.
First, above, please meet the Calamarata Con Cozze e Calamari: Calamari shaped pasta with mussels, calamari and saffron sauce. The sauce alone exemplified excellence and the mussels in particular were particularly ravishing.
Farfalle Ulpia, below, is totally old world class prepared right in front of you with Bow Tie Pasta with Pancetta, Mascarpone and Spinach. A dusting of parmesan makes it even better and if anyone had any question if New York is back, you only need to look around the room to know it absolutely is. Mario the Captain was the ultimate professional to work with as well, and he has only been there since 1992!
We chose this smashing Cantina di Montalcino and we loved it.
Yes, it really does look this incredible which is beyond indicative of the flavor that awaits you. How many thousand times have we said no dressing? Everyone wonders where we will eat the dressing and the answer is almost nowhere. Except with the Pollo Milano at Il Postino!!! The Breast of Chicken Breaded with Arugula and Cherry Tomatoes was simply sensational and we reveled in the simplicity.
Salmone Grigliato arrived in style perfectly medium as ordered and the Grilled King Salmon with Dijon Mustard and Caper Berries were unbelievably delicious and just what you should be having for dinner. The dijonnaise is absolutely what is missing from your life so far this summer if you have yet to add it.
Finally, do not ignore the salad section. From the Baby Lettuce e Pomodori above to the Insalata Maria below with Lettuce, Radicchio, Endive and Red Peppers, their commitment to quality produce is quite clear.
If you are a cinephile, you'll especially enjoy their decor; you know we are as we celebrated our 28,000th post with Warner Brothers, whom we have proudly and consistently worked with on movie reviews since 2010.
It had been far too long since we last saw this team that pursues excellence and we hope to stay in better touch this time and see what impressive culinary feats they come up with next!
