CELEBRATE 100 YEARS OF WARNER BROS. WITH TWO CLASSIC FILMS

EAST OF EDEN AND RIO BRAVO

WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 4K RESOLUTION WITH

HIGH DYNAMIC RANGE (HDR)

PURCHASE THEM ON 4K ULTRA HD DISC AND DIGITALLY AUGUST 1

As part of the year-long centennial celebration for the 100th anniversary of Warner Bros. Studio, two iconic classics from the Warner Bros. library – East of Eden and Rio Bravo - will be available for purchase on 4K Ultra HD Disc and Digital August 1 and we could not be more thrilled to give them each our HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION and readers, this is what you should be watching and it is not a bad idea to start your Christmas shopping too.  Previously on Whom You Know, we celebrated our 28,000th post with Warner Brothers, whom we have been honored to work with for over a decade.

Does it get any better than the cast of Rio Bravo for a Western or really, a movie at all?  NO!  Led by the legendary John Wayne, Rio Bravo just happens to be Peachy's most favorite Western of all time and it evolves at a lovely leisurely pace with several subplots intelligently layered into the stellar script.  The authenticity of the characters, the setting and the overall likability of every aspect of this film are simply sublime and the Americana is a celebration in itself.  This is absolutely not to be missed, particularly with the spectacular 4k format available for the first time ever!  Rio Bravo never gets old.

It's really quite something how much James Dean accomplished as an actor in such a short time period.  Previously on Whom You Know he received accolades for Giant and Rebel Without A Cause, of course both by Warner Brothers.  For everyone that goes to the Produce Show every December in New York-we're talking to you Jodean and our favorite Sunkist Pittsburgh Penguin, you'll be delighted to see the Salad Bowl of Salinas starring here as the setting (and December 6th is coming up).  And of course we love how in the script they say the biggest produce market is New York City!  This is from 1955 and it has not changed in domination.   The dawn of refrigeration is hard to believe as it seems to be something everyone takes for granted today, but looking back it is even more interesting.  East of Eden clearly is a biblical tale based on Cain and Abel and Kazan clearly did master the big screen and the early days of cinemascope.

East of Eden concurrently is a celebration of small-town America which makes it that much more relatable for everyone that is reading us from outside of the big apple.  We particularly love the Carnival Scene complete with Ferris Wheel (did you see it on the CBS Sunday Morning show recently where Peachy once interned)  and the fun mirrors.  The diagonal/raked camera angles add to the appeal of East of Eden and the commentary for both of these movies is superb; you need to watch them at least twice and see them a second time with the commentary on.  You'll learn so much.  The high-level thinking examines another dimension of the filmmaking.

East of Eden, directed by Academy Award winner Elia Kazan and starring James Dean, and Rio Bravo, directed by Honorary Academy Award winner Howard Hawks and starring John Wayne, will be available to purchase on Ultra HD Blu-ray™Disc from online and in-store at major retailers and available for purchase Digitally from Amazon Prime Video, AppleTV, Google Play, Vudu and more.

Working in partnership with The Film Foundation, both films were restored and remastered by Warner Bros. Post Production Creative Services: Motion Picture Imaging and Post Production Sound. Since its launch by Martin Scorsese in 1990, The Film Foundation has restored more than 900 movies.

The Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc will include each feature film in 4K with HDR and a Digital version of the feature film.

Ultra HD Blu-ray showcases 4K resolution with High Dynamic Range (HDR) and a wider color spectrum, offering consumers brighter, deeper, more lifelike colors for a home entertainment viewing experience like never before.

For the complete 4K Ultra HD experience with HDR, a 4K Ultra HD TV with HDR, an Ultra HD Blu-ray player and a high-speed HDMI (category 2) cable are required.
