For the uninitiated, we seek the best everywhere through the entrepreneurs that originated whatever it is....and we could not be more thrilled to kick off our movie coverage of what we believe is the start of a phenomenal new franchise for our friends at Warner Brothers, our FAVORITE.
Unfortunately, Entrepreneur Barbie did not exist in Peachy's childhood, and we still have high hopes for Trader Barbie and Investment Banker Barbie, however, Barbie has ALWAYS demonstrated the idea that you can become anything you want to be in life, and is not only an American icon in this right but also an international superstar. The Army is not the only organization that says you can be all you can be: Barbie is the one that teaches this to little girls and if you are reading this, you know Barbie deserves credit for teaching Peachy that style and ambition are within your reach if you work hard and believe in yourself. This is a universal belief that transcends quite a lot, and in the divisive world we are living in, Barbie is a unifier.
We agree with Margot Robbie's idea of waking up and having a slide that goes into your pool, and that is on our bucket list. Dreams come true of all kinds in this movie, and Bravo to Mark Ronson (whom we met through the British Consulate thank you Toby) for the original music in this movie.
For everyone artistically motivated, you will see more shades of pink captured and celebrated than you have at any one point in a movie in your entire life. There is a lot of creative direction in this film and we love the thinking outside the box that is going on throughout while staying true to the central character and idea of Barbie. We were beyond thrilled to see Growing Up Skipper because that was Peachy's first Barbie in real life. We want to see more Skipper in the future. There are a myriad of fun cameos. Weird Barbie in disrepair is totally hilarious, Will Ferrell is the perfect executive and Rhea Perlman was our absolute favorite actor in this film and you know you you know Carla Tortelli where everybody knows your name!!!
If you think this movie is grounded in cotton candy and ephemeral joy, think again. Singing in the Rain (another WB hit we reviewed), Oklahoma and The Nutcracker all influenced this Barbie. You absolutely must see all the special features and if you only saw this in the theatre, this is the way to get them.
The originality in this movie is unsurpassed in quality. Bravo to Greta Gerwig the director who is setting the standard for female directors everywhere, and we hear another up and coming talent in directing - a graduate of Tony Bennett's Frank Sinatra school - Director Sadie Bones has something exciting on the horizon.
Finally, how can you not love a girl who drives a Pink Corvette!?!!? (and do follow our friends at Corvette Racing on Twitter!) However, Barbie you should drive a C-8 (midengine) in the sequel.
If you are having a bad day - and it doesn't get worse than midweek at noon because everything happens on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday now- and having thoughts of death and cellulite, you need to put Barbie on your agenda for immediate happiness.
Do you want to be happy? Do you want to celebrate life? Do you want to laugh and smile? Watch Barbie, and the men of all persuasions will be surprised to see they love it too.
