Ho ho ho, MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Rockefeller Center by Peachy Deegan

Doesn't going to the capital of the world's biggest Christmas tree make you readers hungry?  It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas, everywhere we go!  And we think we just heard the tree say: καλά Χριστούγεννα
kalá Christoúgenna
...which means MERRY CHRISTMAS in Greek!

And the merriest, most elegant and spectacularly delicious celebration is right now at Ammos Estiatorio!
Luckily for you, you don't have to speak Greek to eat Greek and Owner Dimitris Nakos has been passionately crafting up a tremendous celebratory occasion for you and your loved ones whether in the main dining area or a private room for your bespoke soiree.  And of course, the Christmas tree at Ammos is ready to see you!
And of course, the best celebration in town or country is at 52 Vanderbilt Avenue for NEW YEAR'S EVE!!!!  Kick off your 2024 in smashing style with their tremendous menu with open bar and spectacular specialization in fine Greek cuisine.  Click here to make your New Year's Eve reservation.  The entirety of the menu is found later in this post, after we introduce you to exactly what Peachy suggests that she personally has tried already to get your party started!
NOTE WE ARE SO EXCITED ABOUT NEW YEAR'S EVE AT AMMOS, THAT WE STARTED A COUNTDOWN CALENDAR ON THE RIGHT IN SEPTEMBER.
Actions speak louder than words, readers!
Enhanced by the premium open bar from 9pm to midnight, Ammos Estiatorio offers a top-notch menu that is the pinnacle of a party!
Everyone starts with the Pantzaria Carpacccio.
There's another Greek word: Pantzaria means beets!
Thin-cut oven-roasted golden and blood beets invigorated in white balsamic shallot vinaigrette and topped off with a generous dollop of pistachio yogurt with the perfect touch of a garlic accent await your palate to ignite your appetite!
The graciousness and health factor of the Mediterranean diet shine to start your year off right.
Note if for some reason you have not read our other 28,000 posts, you should know we never edit pictures.  We publish the truth. And the truth is, Dimitris Nakos has been showing us how Ammos excels since we first visited in 2011 and has been a consistent winner on our Best Of Yearly List.
Next on the menu is the appetizer, and you can see all the choices below.
We chose the Octapodi, which is an entire leg of Octopus and is served whole.
Serving it whole is a key aspect of the high quality you'll consistently encounter at Ammos Estiatorio: you cut it up yourself and you firsthand experience this majesty of the sea.
Served grilled with fennel, capers, onions, roasted red bell peppers, and highlighted with a honey balsamic emulsion, it achieves a lovely balance, all dressed up but not overdone.
The soft and tender inside of the Octapodi is testament to the skills of Executive Chef Bruno Marino.
The main course we chose is the sublime Lavraki: it is Whole Mediterranean Sea Bass, a relevation of the bounty of the ocean waters, charcoal-grilled successfully searing the outside while retaining the delicious moistness inside.  Freshly-ground Greek spices including oregano, salt and lemon team up for an outer layer that emblazons the fish in spectacular form and every bite of this light, flaky majesty will be a celebration on your palate.  Joined by sauteed spinach, another healthful aspect of Ammos's vision of fine dining, the Lavraki is nicely set off with this vegetable of perfection, flavor and warmth.

The final firework of the edible occasion is the Yogurt Flan, which is what we chose for dessert.  Chilled Greek Yogurt flan steps it up with Greek Honey and Sour Cherries for a kick of sweetness that sings a song of Auld Lang Syne while you drink a cup of kindness yet to celebrate 2024!
Ammos Estiatorio continues to earn our Highest Recommendation.
