#InauguralReview #GeorgeSouthernGreek by #GeorgeKalogerakos #UpperEastSide #Manhattan

Say yes please to the Youvetsi Thalassinon
Server Americo Mazariego was a delight to work with
It's not who you know, it's WHOM YOU KNOW and now we know George Kalogerakos, namesake and founder of George Southern Greek which opened on 1144 First Avenue in Manhattan this past January 2024.
Spring has started off with a bang in New York, and the weather may feel like winter right now but your dinner doesn't have to.  We started our George Southern Greek experience with SALADS which should surprise absolutely no one, especially because our newest culinary column is Sensational Salads, featuring the very best from those who have earned a spot in Peachy's Picks.
We adored the Horiatiki above: it's a Greek classic.
Fresh and crunchy, the Greek village salad is adorned with vine ripe tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, olives, oregano, feta cheese, evoo and outstanding red onions!
Below, we met Marouli which earns points for uniqueness.
Romaine, scallions, graviera cheese and red wine vinegar and evoo all bask in the majesty of DILL one of our most favorite ingredients ever and highly underrepresented on all Manhattan menus.
Of course they listened and put the dressing on the side for Ms. Superpicky.
Spanakopita hits the spot and this is a Greek classic: spinach pie for you Americans reading.
Fresh spinach, feta, scallions and herbs rejoice in Phyllo dough and this hearty dish hits the spot.
One of the strongest points in our one and only visit so far were the Tzatziki, Greek yogurt spread with cucumber, garlic and fresh dill and the Taramas, Greek fish row.  We absolutely loved them and the pita is fresh.  Also not included in this review are bagels and afterwards we liked these spreads on them too.
The Kebab section has a lot of depth, and we opted for the Beef above and the Fresh Shrimp below.  The beef was lightly marinated and beautifully char-grilled and Irish Peachy chose spears of lemon potatoes to come to their party.  The juicy shrimp, also marinated, was wonderfully seared and served with a brilliant fluffy rice pilaf.  Note we do not edit pictures: the food does look this terrific in real life.
Everyone knows that the best Greek fish is LAVRAKI and it's a solid performance here and we chose roasted vegetables to come sing back up to the poisson hit.  Do not miss the "Classics" section of the menu-it is hiding at the bottom right corner and that is where we found the star of this visit: Youvetsi Thalassinon: Calamari, shrimp, mussels and octopus are a total seafood extravaganza that will be enchanted to meet you.

We were impressed and can't wait to see what they do next!
