History and Company Overview

Our mission is to provide therapeutic skincare for all and we do so by being the first and only brand to offer a complete line of products containing three essential ceramides and patented MVE technology to restore the skin’s natural protective barrier.

Through our early research with dermatologists, we learned that the key components of the skin barrier –ceramides – were deficient in skin conditions such as acne, eczema, psoriasis and dry skin, which lead to a compromised skin barrier. As a result, skin identical ceramides became the hero ingredient of CeraVe and US researchers partnered with leading dermatologists to help create a line of skincare products designed to help restore and maintain the skin barrier, specifically for those suffering from chronic skin conditions and unable to find a solution. CeraVe began as part of a pharmaceutical company that focused on Dermatology, since our debut, the brand has continued to stick to a formula-first philosophy – prioritizing a valuable product at an affordable price over costly, luxury packaging.

CeraVe was acquired by L’Oréal in 2017, which has helped to expand our reach and innovation pipeline. As such, CeraVe is based in New York City, but has expanded and is available in more than 35 countries worldwide.

- When did the brand start? What was the first product?

CeraVe was founded in 2005 after significant research and development work with dermatologists and skin experts to develop products that would deliver therapeutic skincare for all. The first three products at the brand’s inception were Moisturizing Cream, Hydrating Facial Cleanser and Daily Moisturizing Lotion.
