#InauguralReview @TavernonJane Since 1995 by #MichaelStewart 31 Eighth Avenue at Jane Street of Course! #WestVillage #Manhattan!

Say yes please to the Grilled Hanger Steak!
It's not who you know, it's WHOM YOU KNOW and we are absolutely thrilled to now know Michael Stewart, who is a delight, and his fabulous hotspot, Tavern on Jane.  This is our first visit ever there and they've been open since 1995 and Michael has been the sole owner since January 2014.  It's a great neighborhood spot and it should be on your priority list if you are not in the vicinity of 31 eighth; there are a lot of bars and gastropubs and taverns and they are not all nearly this spectacular.  Also they have two tv's with local sports playing and attract guests of all ages.
We began with the Tavern Sirloin Chili, above.
Anyone that has ever had their Chili featured on Whom You Know can thank Gerard (Gerard is kind of like Madonna on this site-he is mentioned for his commitment to excellence so frequently he doesn't need a last name) because before we met him and his chili, Peachy didn't eat it at all because all previous chili in her life to her seemed like dog food.
So, we like to see how we like other chili now!
The Tavern on Jane Chili is a strong side and the onion and green pepper step up the sirloin in this carnivorous bowl that will entice you!
Note if you are new to us, we do not edit pictures.  You win like Michael Stewart, or we do not publish.
Continuing along the carnivorous start, we tried the Meatballs starter next.
For both the meatballs and the burger, later featured, Tavern on Jane uses Pat LaFrieda grass-fed chuck brisket and short rib, and served with garlic crostini, the meatballs are delicious and exactly what you would want from a meatball.
Of course, they are sociable and smiled for their closeup.
Next, we applaud Lillian's Cobb.
Who is Lillian?  It's Lillian Foote, from a previous owner.
By any name, this Cobb is superior.
Grilled Chicken, gorgonzola, red peppers, tomato, egg, bacon, red onion and dressing on the side were expertly arranged and stood at organized attention!
We love the style.  The Green Goddess dressing also was fabulous.
And, it was healthy and hit the spot.
The Caesar Salad is exactly what we were looking for and you can add protein and we adored it with chicken.  A classic, this salad boasts anchovies, parmesan and croutons and was appropriately dressed to the nines with Caesar dressing of course.
If you are looking for an entree on the lighter side, the Fettucini Prima Vera is an inviting selection.  It's perfectly al dente and we chose to add shrimp to the fresh basil, red pepper, zucchini and squash which sing a wonderful song of summer.  It's nice to know the shrimp are beautifully butterflied in addition to being delicious.
Is Peachy's mouth that big?  Maybe her X mouth.
Note the drink page of the menu is just as robust as the culinary page, and we chose the Rodney Strong Cabernet Sauvignon to go with these next two-a good match!
Any place in Manhattan that wants to be competitive must have a great burger, and any place in America for that matter.  Obviously, Manhattan sets the standard.
We were impressed with the Jane Street Burger.
It's the most popular and it arrived medium rare just as Peachy's little heart desired.
It's notable for its cheddar, bbq sauce, frizzled onions, and lettuce, onion and tomato.
Note there are 8 burger choices here which is just great, and we might have further burger ambitions at Tavern on Jane.
The Grilled Hanger Steak is a winner too, with Jane's homemade signature steak sauce, creamed spinach and steak fries.  It also was perfectly medium rare as you can see and the taste was tops.
We might separate the steak from the creamed spinach however as we like to taste them separately.
Finally, the Seared Wild Scottish Salmon is sourced from the North Atlantic and Tavern on Jane receives fish deliveries three times a week we're told.  Orange beurre blanc, basmati rice and veg sing backup to this laudable poisson!  The garlic mashed potatoes are a side to be adored and not ignored and they are versatile to go with whatever you order.
Finally, this straightforward, authentic venue gave a final high five to our stomach with the brownie a la mode because chocolate often is the right answer!
We were impressed and hope to see Tavern on Jane keep up the excellent work.
