#InauguralReview #HuiRestaurantandBar by #EdwinYue Since 2019 #314East70thStreet #UpperEastSide #Manhattan

Hui Restaurant and Bar is a Chinese hotspot new to us that you should know about!
Say Cheers: Gangbei in Chinese
It's not who you know, it's WHOM YOU KNOW and now we know Edwin Yue, owner of Hui Restaurant and Bar, a Chinese spot!  We do like Chinese food, but can encounter communication challenges when considering this cuisine for feature: Edwin has overcome them and shown us what he can do!
This is Edwin's first restaurant and he is the real deal straight from China.
Edwin came to the USA 20 years ago and he is a scientist, specializing in the heart.
His goal is to make Hui a traditional, authentic Sichuan Province restaurant and they do have a liquor license and have had it the whole time.
Obviously, the English language and love of it is central to being considered for feature and there are many intangible elements that restaurants must possess to be featured.  Open since 2019, Hui has some promising dishes that deserve your attention.  Peachy is a huge fan of Pork Fried Rice, which is hard to find done well in Manhattan.  It is not part of the menu here, but we did try the Yangzhou Fried Rice, above.  It's an amalgamation of a bevy of vegetables and shrimp and it hits the spot in its deliciousness.
Under "Hui's Special" section of the menu, you'll be delighted to discover Beef with Organic Mushrooms and Black Pepper. It was one of the strongest components of the review with sauteed beef, enhanced with green pepper and onion.  It's spicy without being overwhelming and the mushrooms balance it perfectly.
Everyone knows that Peachy's favorite vegetable is green beans, and she really wants to get in green vegetables at dinnertime.  Here, Sauteed Pea Shoots with Garlic made their debut and it might be the first time we have ever had them.  They were fabulously sauteed and of course we love garlic.
There's a section called "New York Inspired Chinese Food" where we found Broccoli Chicken, below.  If there is a universally appealing dish aside from the fried rice, we believe this would be it.  It's exactly as you would want to find broccoli and chicken and perhaps it's inspired by our city.
We really hope we can get Edwin to make roast pork spare ribs someday, but in the meantime, we found Honey Spare Ribs under appetizers.  These are bite size!  Be careful of the bone...and if you like honey they are sure to appeal to you.
Hui really excels in their green vegetables and we hope they add more (maybe green beans??).  We were also impressed with an item from the Summer Addition menu: Sauteed Chinese Broccoli with Garlic.  Obviously, Chinese Broccoli is a totally different vegetable than the broccoli we know and also different from Broccolini.  It is a welcome, delicious, nutritious addition to your vegetable repertoire.
Note we do not edit pictures ever: it really looks this great in person.
House Special Prawns above are a spicy summer special and we will warn you, they are in their shells in their entirety, not just the tail, so it takes real excavation work to eat them.  Similarly, the Striped Bass, fish of the day special baked, roasted and grilled is not fileted or deboned and was challenging for Peachy to eat, who never filets or debones anything herself and orders it that way.  The menu at Hui is extensive and the many sections we believe represent undiscovered territory we're going to explore...sometimes Peachy feels like Christopher Columbus discovering menus!  Stay tuned for more hits from Edwin and delight in the fact that we finally found some Chinese food to be excited about.
