Truffle Gnocchi now with black truffles on top in addition to the amazing white truffle cream was Peachy's favorite this visit
There's no doubt in our mind that the strong suit at Song E Napule is Pizza!
Italian pizza straight from Napoli!
We began with Pizza Rosse: of course, pizza with red sauce.
To that end, we dove into the Bufalina, an unbeaten classic. We applaud the depth of this menu and the spectacular Bufalina boasts Tomato Sauce San Marzano Rega DOP and San Marzano Slow Food Eccellenza Nolane, Buffalo mozzarella drom Battipaglia, and Parmigiano Reggiano vacche rose, fresh basil and evoo. The sauce, cheese and crust were phenomenal but it would have been better with a bit more basil.
Peachy loves vegetables on pizza, and the Vegetariana is a favorite of hers. Also with Tomato Sauce San Marzano Rega DOP and San Marzano Slow Food Eccellenza Nolane, it has Fiordilatte cheese, eggplant, mushrooms, artichoke, broccoli rabe, fresh basil and evoo.
If you think you don't like vegetables, clearly you haven't been here! They utilize them in the most delicious way.
Previously, the Upper West Side was lauded earlier this year and the downtown location made its debut here last year; we'd encourage you to read both as they detail the history of this venue and Austria and Ciro, the amazing owners.
If you are unfamiliar with pizza from Napoli, you should know it is different from New York pizza in that it is smaller and wetter but equally delicious.
Pizza Bianche is white pizza and the specialty pizza is grouped in the same section of the menu.
In the world according to Peachy, the Porcini, above, ranks quite high boasting mozzarella fiordilatte di Agerola, Shaved Parmigiano Reggiano, Porcini mushrooms and truffle oil. Not to be outdone is the Melanzane e Salsicce: Provola cheese di Agerola, Datterino tomatoes from Corbara, Italian Sausage, Parmigiano Reggiano Vacche Rosse fondue, and evoo will entice your palate.
Cotto E Funghi, San Marzano Rega DOP tomato sauce, Fior di latte di agerola mozzarella, Prosciutto Cotto, Mushrooms, Basil and Evoo remains a favorite, and San Marzano Rega DOP tomato sauce, Fior di latte di agerola mozzarella, basil and evoo set the standard for what Margherita should be defined by.
If you have not eaten the pizza by Ciro, you simply have not properly lived.
We seek restaurants that appeal to health as well as taste and Song E Napule rises to the occasion.
Something as simple as grilled vegetables is executed to the highest degree of perfection and deliciousness here! Carrots, zucchini, bell peppers, and endive struck a pose the day we visited but market vegetables is what is on the menu so the day you visit there may be variance.
Other than obviously the pizza, the biggest star of the show at this venue is the Truffle Gnocchi.
It is a special and not always on the menu; luckily it was in residence when we visited. We had had it before and it is elevated to even higher echelons with shaved black truffle joining the party. Words do not do it justice. Spaghetti Con Vongole sings a song of summer with Spaghetti Mancini, clams, evoo and sauteed piennolo tomatoes and again we reveled in the simplicity.
The salads are spectacular and in particular, the Tuna Salad, above, and the Pomodorini Salad below were the best. Marinated Sicilian Tuna announced its sophistication with evoo, arugula, cherry tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella, shaved Parmigiano reggiano, fresh basil and evoo Centonze. Pomodorini had a bevy of arugula, of course cherry tomatoes, shaved Parmigiano reggiano and balsamic. They listened and put the dressing on the side and components were fresh and delicious.
Pizza in the summer is a great choice and we look forward to more hits from our friend Ciro!
