Best Seared Branzino Peachy Deegan ate in August was at Recette!
Grilled Rib Eye with smashing Bordeaux:
Owners Igor Drca and Zdravko Kostadinovic of Recette in Brooklyn
It's not who you know and it never has been.
It's WHOM YOU KNOW and we absolutely know The Consulate on the Upper West Side, a Peachy's Pick. If you are as excellent as them, we will go to Brooklyn! Yes, you read that correctly. Peachy actually ate somewhere outside of Manhattan and was still in New York City, not another state. Three out of the four owners of The Consulate own Recette, Igor Drca, Metodija Mihajlov and Miljan Komnenic, and they own Recette along with Zdravko Kostadinovic and Executive Chef Alan Vargas.
Everyone knows French is the second language of Whom You Know...Recette is Recipe in French! The menu is FRENCH influenced bien sur. Peachy's all time favorite French person, Alain Delon, spent his last day on earth the night we went to Recette and we raise our glass to him and celebrate him in spirit. If you have not watched every single one of his films you are not living your best life....Recette has a younger atmosphere and is geared towards the age 20 decade (not Peachy) however, we believe it's universally appealing. There are 32 coveted seats, so of course make your reservation, silly!
Peachy Deegan clicked her ruby red slippers like Dorothy and popped in a bubble like Glinda the Good Witch of the North and immediately found herself at 103 Havemeyer Street. If you like The Consulate you are sure to like Recette. The salads are just as amazing. We began with the Caesar and it's a total classic complete with romaine, aged parmesan, anchovies and croutons. We chose to add grilled chicken which elevated it even more: the chicken is perfectly warm and juicy. The Brussels and Kale Salad always sets this group of owners apart in spectacular fashion and Lilly Pulitzer, we know you are reading up there, and we chose to add salmon to pay homage to your signature pink and green. Tuscan Kale, green apple, and pecorino cheese team up to make this one of Peachy's favorite green salads anywhere.
Escargot Glamour Shots:
Burgundy Escargots graciously greet you and don't be deceived thinking there are six: there are ten escargots among the six holes. Obviously they give you the right fork, and believe us, this doesn't happen everywhere automatically. They luxuriate in butter, garlic, shallots and are even better with the element of chives, which is something quite positive with escargot that we don't remember seeing anywhere else. The performance of Recette was so strong on our first visit we'd say it trumps some places we recommend already in Manhattan. The Nicoise Salad confirmed just like The Boyfriend Musical that it is indeed so much nicer in Nice (also, just ask Alain Allegretti!). Seared tuna, haricots verts, cherry tomato, potatoes, olives and egg form an extravaganza of fresh flavors to get uberexcited about. Also, they put the dressing on the side as Ms. Pretty Picky asked. She even liked the dressing at Recette. You have to dig pretty deep to find places where she likes the salad dressing.
Don't hate it because it's beautiful.
Eat it.
Eat it.
Half a Roasted Chicken is perfectly deboned (Peachy does not want to deal with bones or skin or tails etc...and you don't either we bet, readers!) and it waltzes in a bed of spinach in a moat of chicken jus. Open your drawbridge mouth and proceed!
The Seared Branzino is absolute perfection and it is a superb whole fish.
It was the first item totally delicately demolished by you know who.
Capers, Salsa Verde and Mixed Greens sang backup to the Poisson that Success is made of.
It was butterflied in gorgeous fashion and the ultimate in freshness.
It is worth going to Brooklyn for!
This versatile Bordeaux went well with everything we dined upon.
Definitely order it.
Steaks everywhere are not the same and we surmise there is absolutely nowhere in Brooklyn that can compete with the excellence of the Branzino and the 14 ounce grilled ribeye. It comes with amazing chimichurri sauce lending a festive touch. Crispy shallots and a majestic whole head of garlic seal the deal.
It was perfectly medium rare as we ordered and they got it right the first time:
It is even better with a head of garlic, which is what more people should be doing with their steak:
Six side choices are among your options and we do love a great Broccolini when we see it on someone's menu. It's elevated here with preserved lemon.
We even liked the Chandelier!
It was no surprise that Recettte hit it out of the park and was the best dining experience in Brooklyn Peachy has had in her life and we look forward to seeing them keep up the superior work.
