Absolute Power is Baldacci's first book ever we believe, from 1996. This blast from the past proved to be timeless, dated only by Radio Shack and the lack of technology at the time and cell phone tracking.
Absolute Power is a nod to the expertise of the secret service, and it would be a massive understatement to say it's unfortunate that considering the recent Trump assassination attempts - it's sadly timely now. To be clear, this is a work of fiction and is a harbinger of Baldacci's future success.
The characters are completely stellar and "[she certainly didn't have to die like this.]" p. 51
It's completely before the "me too" movement, and young people today should be fascinated by how crime once was done. We liked the great restaurant speech by Sandy Lord. p. 134. Admittedly, this is a long work and could have been tighter but it is an incredible debut novel deserving of your attention if you have not read it yet.
