#InauguralReview #MonsieurBistro Since November 2024 by #TheliauProbst and #ThibautCastet #French #853LexingtonAvenue at East 65th Street #UpperEastSide
You need the Monsieur Bistro Burger in your life!
It's smiling at you.
It's not who you know, it's WHOM YOU KNOW and now we know Theliau Probst, owner of Monsieur Bistro on the Upper East Side with 65 coveted seats. Bien sur mes amis it is FRENCH, but it is Mediterranean-inspired and nothing is cooked in butter, Theliau tells us. He also tells us there's no stress here and it's a chill place! Everyone knows Peachy is pretty intense about what she eats and takes everyone's business seriously and she's excited to share with you some hits from her first visit here. Note there is no T at the end of Bistro because you don't need it with all the T's in the names of the owners, Peachy says! They were inspired by Claude Bistro in the 14th arrondissement. The wine list is also fabulous. Monsieur Bistro opened November 1, 2024; they also own Maison Close.
Peachy favors water with lemon and no ice and they got it right the first time. General Manager Brice from Paris was also a pleasure to meet.
We are huge advocates of salads, and we were pleased with the two we tried. First, above, meet Brussel Sprout Salad: avocado, green zucchini, parmesan, cashew and the wonderful pomegranate accent join them with mustard dressing, which they appropriately put on the side for us. You absolutely should get the chicken with the Farro Bowl, and the halved tomatoes in particular shone in this dish. Farro, butternut squash, cucumber, plum tomato and avocado team up for a hearty fall feat. And they put the dressing on the side for Mademoiselle Pretty Picky.
Of course, pictures are unedited and everything does look this great in real life.
Six escargots a la Bourguignonne were solid but low on garlic, which we favor. If you are a fan of snails but not garlic, these are for you! There's a prevalent tomato flavor present in the "Tomato Concase" and they are presented in dishes originated by Peachy's new pal, Francis (Staub). We sipped on this Bordeaux, fantastic!
Medium Rare, as ordered:
We were pleased with the Skirt Steak, Theliau's favorite, and the 12 oz carnivorous party on a plate was perfectly medium rare, as ordered. It's joined by exquisite bordelaise sauce and french fries. Emmental from Savoie graces the presence of the best burger we had anywhere this season: the Monsieur Bistro Burger! Lettuce, onion, and tomato round out the winning team and it was also perfectly medium rare.
The side of green beans was perfect, and the simplicity of the Elbow Pasta will hit the spot: it's Grandmere Marie Claire's recette avec Parisian Ham and 12 month comte cheese. Finally, the Pan Seared Salmon was medium and exactly what we were looking for with quinoa, napa cabbage and yuzu dressing. Bravo also to Corporate Chef Geoffrey Lechantoux, who also has worked at Jules Verne in Paris. Finally, note the logo is continuous and drawn in a single pen stroke!
We are still waiting to hear what Theliau's favorite Alain Delon movie is (Peachy's favorite question in French)...maybe we will tell you another day because guess what, he has a connection to the old Peachy's Pick, Jubilee.
We were impressed and we look forward to seeing what they do next!
