#PeachysPicks #TerrificTakeout A Peachy's Pick Since 2013, #BenitoOne Since 1968 by #Owner #JamesBari Fall 2024

Owner James Bari and Peachy Deegan
It's not who you know, it's WHOM YOU KNOW and we were first delighted with Benito One's talents way back in 2013 when it became a Peachy's Pick immediately.  There is absolutely no good reason why it took us so long to return and in fact, we wish we went back much sooner because the talents here run deep, particularly with the lobster dishes.  Also the music is still amazing and you can see we nearly never say that anywhere.  Note we do publish on The Recording Academy and have for well over a decade...(New York Notes is our music column.)
You'll immediately feel welcome.
There was once a Benito who worked at Grotto Azurra, and left in 1968 to open Benito.  Today, James (fifth from the left in the mural directly below) is the 4th owner and he has been running it since March 17, 2011.   Please say a prayer for James's brother Nicolas who has passed since our last review two years ago and was his co-owner.  James's dad is from Bari and his mom is from Palermo and he is a true Little Italy original and has lived there his entire life.
The first firework of the night was the Lobster Bisque, which is the best soup we've had anywhere this entire year. It is the best Lobster Bisque we have had in years.  You should march yourself to Benito One right now for this alone.  Way before Whom You Know started, Peachy loved the Clam Chowder at Atlantic Fish Company in the Back Bay of Boston which was served in a Bread Bowl so that is the only way this could get any better-putting it in a bread bowl.
The Lasagna of meat and cheese is a solid selection and is layered perfectly.
It's sure to hit the spot on a cold day and the mozzarella on top makes it superior to its competition.
Benito One hits consistent Home Runs on dishes you'd expect to be wonderful in Little Italy.  The Chicken Parm, above and the Spinach and Ricotta Stuffed Shells, below are iconic classics in generous portions that will leave you just as happy the following day.   There are no weaknesses to be found in either dish and the truth is excellence happens at Benito One.  As always, these pictures are totally unedited.
Inside:
The Lobster Ravioli is in the upper echelons of its ilk and they are made fresh!  Lobster is sourced from Maine and the ravioli are locally crafted with the insides exclusively by Benito One.  They luxuriate in a pink sauce of perfection and it's your distinct pleasure to dine upon them.  For fish, the Salmon with Shallots in a Cognac Sauce hit the high note of excellence.
Cappuccino and Tiramisu are the perfect conclusion.
Benito One is Highly Recommended by Whom You Know.

There is still not a website but when we hear of one, we'll visit again and you'll be the first to know!
