Introducing #MetroClockRepair by #TanjaNielsen Since 2011

It's not who you know, it's WHOM YOU KNOW and we are absolutely thrilled to tell you about Tanja Nielsen, Peachy Deegan's newest discovery.  She is the Founder and Owner of Metro Clock Repair Since 2011.  Finding a clock specialist is far more difficult than finding a great dinner in Manhattan, and Tanja imports herself from New Jersey to bring your best timepieces that are like members of your family back to their best life!

Tanja Nielsen began her career in her native Denmark in 1996 in training where she graduated from a four-year apprenticeship from the Danish Watchmaking School, a trade school.  In 2004, Tanja came to the USA, transferring internally at the international Swiss company she worked for at the time that had global locations including the USA and Denmark.    Today she does clocks, not watches.  It's so important to take care of keepsakes and having this specialty knowledge is a highly skilled profession.

You'll learn lots of helpful tips as you engage her in conversation.  In general, every clock is unique and she will have to look at your clock and see the mechanisms behind it.  Service checks are so important: Tanja is essentially like a clock doctor.  You go to the doctor: your clocks need the same attention.  Tanja recommends service checks every two to three years and mechanism replacements every eight to ten years, generally speaking.  She has the expertise to evaluate your clock circumstances on an individual basis.  We are interested in keeping everything original and Tanja tells us she is also able to clean clocks.

In terms of taking care of your clocks to maintain the time, to set your clocks, you should always use the minute hand going forwards.  (Not the hour hand.)  We learned that the left wind hole is for the chimes and the right is for the time.  Over time, gears become tighter we understand.

It goes without saying we found Tanja to be classy, intelligent, responsible and professional.  When she left, all of our clocks were running successfully.  We trusted her with our clocks and you should too.  She works with both individuals at their residences and professional corporations commercially.  She generally works in the New York area however, if you and your clocks live somewhere else, feel free to reach out for her bespoke evaluation.

Tanja is like Tinkerbell sprinkling pixie dust on your clocks with her emergency oil; she's truly the clock whisperer.  Only professionals should use oil we understand; it is a common mistake for amateurs to over-oil and you do not want to ruin your clocks.  Another great thing to know is that Tanja personally does all the work: she does not have anyone else do it; this is in keeping with our philosophy of Whom You Know!  We are not Whom You Know through a third party.  We are Whom You Know directly.

Anyone that has ever met Peachy knows that she always has a million questions (which we hope makes the features we publish better!), and Tanja professionally answered our follow up questions after her professional visit.  She tells us:

"Yes I do clean clocks and perform complete overhauls when needed too. (Complete overhaul, meaning complete disassembly of the mechanism, cleaning of all the parts and repair of worn out parts, assembly and testing the mechanism before bringing it home).
Emergency oiling is a great place to start. In some cases it can boost life into a dry mechanism for a shorter or longer period of time.
I usually discuss options with my customers and sometimes they choose the emergency oil for starters and sometimes they agree on full repair right away.
Also to set the hand to match the chime: First you want to move the minute hand to point at 12 and then count the gongs. Then push the hour hand to point towards the number to match the gongs.
After that you need to set the clock to the correct time. To do that you move the minute hand forward, and keep going until the hands are pointing at the correct time. You don’t have to stop to let it chime. Just be careful not to hit the hour hand when you move the minute hand around the dial/face of the clock."

We hope to keep you updated on this new talent and Metro Clock Repair impressed us on their first visit.
